Today Rupee trades marginally higher against US dollar

 
The Indian rupee on Thursday was trading marginally higher against the US dollar in opening trade.

The rupee opened at 65.41 a dollar. At 9.15am, the home currency was trading at 65.40, up 0.07% from its previous close of 65.44.

Asian currencies were trading lower. Thai baht was down 0.32%, Japanese yen 0.24%, China offshore 0.16%, China renminbi 0.15%, Singapore dollar 0.15%, Taiwan dollar 0.11% and Malaysian ringgit 0.07%. However, South Korean won was up 0.24%.

The dollar index, which measures the US currency’s strength against major currencies, was trading at 99.814, up 0.14% from its Monday’s close of 99.677.

Today Rupee hits fresh 16-month high against US dollar in market

 
The Indian rupee strengthened for the third session to hit a fresh 16-month high against the US dollar ahead of the outcome of US Federal Reserve meeting due later on Wednesday.

The rupee opened at 65.76 a dollar and touched a high of 65.53, a level last seen on 3 November 2015. At 9.50am, the home currency was trading at 65.55, up 0.40% from its previous close of 65.82.

Asian currencies were trading marginally lower. Taiwan dollar was up 0.23%, Thai baht 0.13%, South Korean won 0.12%, Philippine peso 0.06% and Singapore dollar 0.06%. However, Japanese yen was down 0.07%.

The dollar index, which measures the US currency’s strength against major currencies, was trading at 101.67, down 0.03% from its Monday’s close of 101.7.

Today Rupee weakens against US dollar on Asian cues

 
The Indian rupee on Thursday weakened against the US dollar tracking the losses in its Asian peers after better-than-expected private US employment data boosted the speculation that Federal Reserve may raise interest rates in its March meeting.

The rupee opened at 66.82 a dollar. At 9.15am, the home currency was trading at 66.84, down 0.2% from its Wednesday’s close of 66.70.

Asian currencies were trading lower. South Korean won was down 0.81%, Taiwan dollar 0.24%, Indonesian rupiah 0.15%, China offshore 0.14%, Malaysian ringgit 0.11%, Japanese yen 0.09%, China renminbi 0.08%.

The dollar index, which measures the US currency’s strength against major currencies, was trading at 102.133—up 0.06% from its Monday’s close of 102.07.

On Wednesday night, the ADP employment report showed private payrolls surged by 298,000 last month, far above expectations.

Today Rupee weakens against dollar on Asian cues

 
The Indian rupee on Friday weakened against the US dollar, following losses in its Asian peers on the prospects of US Federal Reserve interest rate hike in its mid-March meeting.

The local currency opened at 66.88 a dollar. At 9.15am, the home currency was trading at 66.89—down 0.26% from its Friday close of 66.71.

Traders are cautious ahead of the US Fed chairwoman Janet Yellen and vice-chairperson Stanely Fischer’s speech later in the day which may give cues on possible interest rate hike.

Asian currencies weakened. South Korean won was down 1.05%, Taiwan dollar 0.67%, Indonesian rupiah 0.27%, China renminbi 0.17%, Malaysian ringgit 0.16%, China Offshore 0.12%, Singapore dollar 0.11%.

However, Japanese yen was up 0.12%.

The dollar index, which measures the US currency’s strength against major currencies, was trading at 102.08—down 0.12% from its previous close of 102.20.

Today Rupee trades marginally higher against US dollar


The Indian rupee on Thursday was trading marginally higher against the US dollar in opening trade, tracking gains in the local equity markets.

The local currency opened at 66.76 a dollar. the home currency was trading at 66.77, up 0.11% from its previous close of 66.83.

Most Asian currencies were trading lower after US Federal Reserve officials prompted gains in the dollar by signalling increased willingness to tighten monetary policy as early as March.

The dollar index, which measures the US currency’s strength against major currencies, was trading at 101.89, up 0.13% from its previous close of 101.78.

Rupee weakens against US dollar on Asian cues in market

 
The Indian rupee on Wednesday weakened against the US dollar, tracking the losses in the Asian currencies markets.

The home currency opened at 66.79 against the US dollar. At 9.10am, the rupee was trading at 66.80 per US dollar, down 0.16% from its Tuesday’s close of 66.69. So far this year, it has risen 1.69%.

India’s benchmark Sensex index was trading at 28,851.12 points, up 0.38% or 107.80 points from its previous close. So far this year, it has risen 7.95%.

The dollar index, which measures the US currency’s strength against major currencies, was trading at 101.47, up 0.35% from its previous close of 101.12.

Indian Rupee on Tuesday was trading little changed against the US dollar

 
The rupee was trading at 66.94, down 0.02% from its previous close of 66.93The Indian rupee on Tuesday was trading little changed against the US dollar in opening trade.

The local currency opened at 66.95 a dollar. At 9.15am, the home currency was trading at 66.94, down 0.02% from its previous close of 66.93.

On Tuesday, currency and bond markets were closed due to municipal corporation elections. The result will be announced on Thursday.

Most of the Asian currencies were trading higher. South Korean won was up 0.45%, Japanese yen 0.23%, Taiwan dollar 0.16%, Singapore dollar 0.15%, Indonesian rupiah 0.11%, Philippines peso 0.09%, China renminbi 0.05% and Thai baht 0.05%.

The dollar index, which measures the US currency’s strength against major currencies, was trading at 101.31, down 0.06% from its previous close of 101.37.

Rupee trades slightly higher against US dollar ahead of RBI policy


The Indian rupee on Wednesday was trading marginally higher against the US dollar ahead of the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) bi-monthly policy decision after 2.30pm.

The local currency opened at 67.37 a dollar. At 9.15am, the home currency was trading at 67.36, up 0.08% from its previous close of 67.41.

Asian currencies markets were trading lower. Malaysian ringgit was down 0.13%, Taiwan dollar 0.1%, Philippines peso 0.09%, China offshore 0.07% and South Korean won 0.05%. However, Japanese yen was up 0.2%.

The dollar index, which measures the US currency’s strength against major currencies, was trading at 100.31, up 0.05% from its previous close of 100.26.

Rupee hits nearly three-month high against US dollar in opening trade

 
The Indian rupee hit nearly a three-month high in the opening trade against the US dollar ahead of the US jobs data due later on Friday. The rupee gained for the eight consecutive sessions, and this was the longest gaining streak since June 2011.

The local currency opened at 67.34 a dollar and touched a low of 67.32—a level last seen on 11 November 2016. At 9.15am, the home currency was trading at 67.35—up 0.03% from its previous close of 67.38.

India’s benchmark Sensex index rose 0.12% or 39.95 points to 28,266.56. So far this year, Sensex has risen 6%

Asian currencies were trading lower. Philippines peso was down 0.24%, China offshore 0.13%, Singapore dollar 0.1%, Thai baht 0.06%, Indonesian rupiah 0.06%, Malaysian ringgit 0.05%. However, Taiwan dollar was up 0.31%, China renminbi 0.22%, Japanese yen 0.11%.

The dollar index, which measures the US currency’s strength against major currencies, was trading at 99.818—up 0.03% from its previous close of 99.79.

Rupee opens stronger 3-week high ahead of Economic Survey


The Indian rupee opened stronger for the fifth consecutive session against the US dollar tracking gains in its Asian peers, ahead of the key domestic as well as international events due later on Tuesday.

The rupee opened at 67.81 a dollar. At 9.15am, the home currency was trading at 67.84 a dollar— up 0.15% from Monday’s close of 67.95. So far this year, it has gained 0.1%.

On the domestic front, the government will present economic survey and gross domestic annual estimates after 12.30pm on Tuesday. The government will also issue fiscal deficit data for December after 4.30pm.

The dollar index, which measures the US currency’s strength against major currencies, was trading at 100.36, down 0.07% from its previous close of 100.43.

Asian currencies were trading higher as dollar weaken reverting to a defensive tone amid concern about protectionism in the US after President Trump’s executive order Friday that clamped down on immigration and after earlier threats of border tariffs.

Rupee jumps 20 paise to 68.12 against dollar in early trade

 
The rupee was trading 20 paise higher at 68.12 against dollar in the early trade on Thursday on account of selling of Amercian currency by bank and exporters.
 
Rupee kicked off 17 paise up at 68.15 against dollar on Thursday against previous close of 68.32 per dollar.

Most of the Asian currencies were trading higher as dollar weakens after US president-elect Trump gave few details on his economic policy at the first press conference since his election victory.

The dollar index, which measures the US currency’s strength against major currencies, was trading at 101.86—down 0.07% from its previous close of 101.93.

Rupee trades marginally higher against US dollar in market

 
The Indian rupee on Wednesday was trading marginally higher against the US dollar in the opening trade.

The home currency opened at 68.28 against the dollar. At 9.15am, the rupee was trading at 68.24 per dollar—up 0.12% from its previous close of 68.33. Since 1 April 2016 till date, rupee has fallen 2.9%.

India’s benchmark Sensex index was trading at 26,658.73 points—up 0.06% or 15.49 points from its previous close. Since 1 April till date, Sensex has gained 5%.

The 10-year bond yield was trading at 6.412%, compared to Tuesday’s close of 6.445%. Bond yields and prices move in opposite directions.

The dollar index, which measures the US currency’s strength against major currencies, was trading at 103.32, up 0.11% from its previous close of 103.21.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Tuesday fixed the reference rate for the dollar at 68.0864 and euro at 71.3818. In cross-currency trade, the rupee was flat against the pound sterling at 83.89 and against the euro at 71.466.

Today Rupee opens higher against US dollar on Asian cues

The Indian rupee on Tuesday strengthened against the US dollar tracking the gains in the Asian currencies markets.

The home currency opened at 68.08 against the dollar. At 9.15am, the rupee was trading at 68.09 per dollar, up 0.2% from its previous close of 68.23. Since 1 April, 2016, to date, rupee has fallen 2.4%.

Most of the currencies were trading higher after a key indicator of China’s private manufacturing showed the sector was robust.

China’s Caixin Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ index (PMI) rose 51.9, compared to 50.9 in November and beating forecasts for 50.7, on the back of increased demand, Reuters reported.

India’s benchmark Sensex index was trading at 26,658.83 points, up 0.24% or 63.38 points from its previous close. Since 1 April till date, Sensex gained 5%.

The dollar index, which measures the US currency’s strength against major currencies, was trading at 102.7, down 0.05% from its previous close of 102.78.

Rupee extends rally, rises 8 paise to 67.83 against dollar


The rupee extended Wednesday's gains and opened 8 paise higher at 67.83 against the dollar on Thursday after the American currency lost some of the steam against a basket of top global currencies as investors booked some profit before the release of US economic data due later in the day.

The domestic equity market opened on a cautious note following weak global cues. The BSE Sensex opened 18.31 points, or 0.07 per cent, down at 26,224, while NSE's Nifty50 index opened 17.45 points, or 0.22 per cent, down at 8,043. The rupee was trading 6 paise higher at 67.85 against the dollar in morning trade around 9.30 am.

The domestic currency closed 12 paise higher at 67.91 against the dollar on Wednesday. However, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) stood net sellers in the domestic market as they offloaded shares worth Rs 621.37 crore with gross purchases and gross sales of Rs 3,288.88 crore and Rs 3,910.25 crore

The US dollar fell against most currencies on Wednesday with the Dollar Index falling 0.26 per cent as sentiments over US interest rate hike subsided. Gains in the euro and the Japanese yen led to profit booking in the US currency.

Today Rupee trades 6 paise higher at 67.81 against US dollar

 
The rupee was trading nearly 6 paise higher at 67.81 against the US dollar in early trade on Tuesday amid buying of the American currency by banks and exporters amid mixed global cues.

The domestic equity indices opened on a flat note. The 30-share Sensex opened 0.11 points down at 26,374, while the Nifty50 began the day 6.25 points higher at 8,110.

The rupee slipped around 11 paise against the dollar on Monday. Robust foreign money outflow coupled with near-term consequences of Fed rate hike largely kept sentiments cautious despite a dollar retreat.

The rupee is likely to stay under pressure due to evolving domestic uncertainties, weakening foreign trade and improving US monetary condition.

Rupee edges up 7 paise to 68.58 against dollar in early trade


The rupee opened 3 paise down on Wednesday morning, but soon recovered by 7 paise to 68.58 against the US dollar as banks and exporters sold some American currency.

The domestic equity market opened higher following mixed global cues. The BSE Sensex was up 70 points, or 0.27 per cent, at 26,464 at around 9.30 am (IST), while the Nifty50 index was trading higher by 16.55 points, or 0.20 per cent, at 8,158.

The rupee opened the day at 68.68 against the dollar, down 3 paise from its previous close. The local currency had settled 11 paise higher at 68.65 against the greenback on Tuesday.

Market experts said adequate dollar supplies following suspected RBI intervention through state-owned banks mainly supported the recovery in the rupee.

However, foreign institutional investors, or FIIs, stood net sellers in the domestic equity market on Tuesday, as they offloaded shares worth Rs 1,366 crore with gross purchases and gross sales of Rs 4,037 crore and Rs 5,404 crore

Today Rupee gains 7 paise against dollar in early trade at Market

 
The Indian rupee was trading nearly 4 paise higher against the US dollar in early trade on Tuesday on account of selling of American currency by banks and exporters amid a positive start of domestic equity markets. The local currency was trading 3 paise higher at 66.71 at 9.14 am.
 
Meanwhile, the BSE Sensex opened 78.27 points, or 0.29 per cent, up at 27,537.26, while the Nifty50 index opened 42.95 points, or 0.51 per cent, up at 8,540.

Defying a recovery in domestic equity markets, Indian currency on Monday settled 4 paise down at 66.74 against the US dollar.
 
The rupee is likely to trade in 66.50-67.30 band and 10-year government security at 6.78-6.89 per cent range this week ahead of the outcome of the US presidential elections to be held on November 8, according to India Ratings. 
 
Equity markets snapped a five-day losing streak on Monday on positive global sentiments as chances of Hillary Clinton in the US election brightened following a relief from FBI in personal email server probe.

Today Rupee advances 3 paise against dollar in early trade

 
The Indian rupee opened nearly 2 paise higher against the US dollar on Friday on account of selling of the greenback by banks and exporters amid a cautious start of domestic equity market tracking mixed global cues.

The rupee was up by 3 paise at 66.72 against the dollar. Benchmark BSE Sensex was up by 2.31 points at 27,432.59, whereas the Nifty50 was trading 8.40 points down at 8,476.55.

The local currency on Thursday snapped a two-day rally and closed down by 3 paise at 66.75 against the US dollar amid capital outflows from domestic equity markets. Foreign institutional investors remained net sellers in the domestic equity market on Thursday as they sold shares worth Rs 613.77 crore during the day, according to the data available with NSDL. Gross purchases of FIIs or FPIs stood at Rs 3,695.41 crore while their gross sales remained at Rs 4,309.18 crore

The dollar index ended lower as rising uncertainties on the US presidential election outcome supported gains in safe haven currencies like Yen and Swiss franc. According to ICICI Securities, the US December rate hike probability has fallen slightly to 69 per cent from 72 per cent since the growing tie between the two presidential candidates.

The brokerage house said, "We expect the US$ to gain support at lower levels. Utilise downsides in the dollar to go long on the US$INR pair."

Today Rupee opens lower at 66.89 per dollar At Market

 
The Indian rupee opened marginally lower at 66.89 per dollar on Friday against previous close 66.86.
 
We expect it to trade in the 66.80-67.50/dollar range in the near term with a weakening bias
 
The US dollar hit its highest in more than seven and a half years amid increased confidence that the Federal Reserve will raise interest rates this year. Traders last saw a more than 78 percent chance that the Fed would hike rates in December.

Today Rupee opens marginally higher at 66.80 per dollar


The Indian rupee opened marginally higher at 66.80 per dollar on Wednesday versus 66.82 Tuesday.

The rupee will take cues from equity markets and trade between 66.65-67.10/dollar," he added.

The dollar hit its highest level in nearly eight months against the euro and a roughly three-month high against the yen on growing expectations that the Federal Reserve would raise interest rates in December, while the offshore yuan hit a record low.

Traders now see 78 percent chance that the Fed would raise rates in December, according to data from CME group's Fedwatch program.
